FAQ
Excise duties on the distance selling of alcohol, made clear.
Yes, in most cases. To sell alcohol at a distance to French consumers, the regulations require you to appoint an excise fiscal representative established in France and approved by customs, who guarantees and pays the duties on your behalf. You cannot take on this role yourself if you are not established in France — that is precisely our service.
From the very first bottle. Unlike standard distance sales (which have a threshold), French excise duty and VAT are owed on your alcohol sales to French consumers with no minimum threshold, because taxation takes place in the country of consumption.
Customs require a financial guarantee covering the payment of duties (bank surety, insurance guarantee or deposit). We explain the mechanism, size the guarantee according to your activity and set it up with you — it is one of the steps we handle.
Both, depending on the matter. The return, the approval of the representative, the management of sureties and audits fall under customs (DGDDI). Since 1 January 2024, the DGFiP collects the payment of excise duty on alcohol. In practice, you do not need to worry about it: we manage the entire process for you.
Yes. French VAT is owed in addition to excise on your B2C alcohol sales. VAT and excise follow two separate processes, but we handle them together, with a single point of contact — that is the whole point of working with a firm approved for both.
For the distance selling of alcohol, we operate in France and Germany — the two markets covered by this service. If you sell in both countries, we handle everything with a single point of contact.
Usually around a week after receiving the necessary information (depending on the setup of the guarantee and administrative lead times). We start with a free audit of your situation.
Yes. Whether you are established in the EU or outside it, we can act as your excise fiscal representative for your distance sales of alcohol to France.
