Changes on the Dutch taxpayer portal NL from July 1st, 2024
The Dutch tax system is evolving. The traditional VAT filing portal is being phased out, and the new “Mijn Belastingdienst Zakelijk” is stepping in to facilitate a more streamlined tax management process. From 1 July 2024 the old taxpayer portal will permanently close so all businesses need to switch to the new taxpayer portal NL before that date.

What is the new taxpayer portal NL and what declarations can be submitted
“Mijn Belastingdienst Zakelijk” is the newly introduced taxpayer portal in the Netherlands, designed to handle all business-related tax affairs digitally. The introduction of this portal marks a significant update in the Dutch VAT portal, aimed at enhancing the tax filing experience. You can file various tax declarations, such as:
- VAT returns ,
- EC Sales list (ICP Opgaaf) ,
- Corporate income tax declaration
- OSS declarations (One-stop-shop).

How to log in to the new taxpayer portal NL
In order to log in to the new taxpayer portal NL use the link : Inloggen voor ondernemers (belastingdienst.nl) and use one of the three options to log in.
The new tax payer portal offers three different options of logging in :
- DigiID
- eHerkenning
- European approved digital identity (eID)
This means that you cannot use the same login and password that you used in the old taxpayer portal. The way of logging in to the new portal will depend on your legal form
The DigiID can be used only by Dutch self-employed person or a sole proprietor.
The eHerkenning must be used by companies with legal forms such as: partnership, limited company, general partnership, limited partnership, or public limited company.
From 29 January 2024, companies that are not registered with the Netherlands Chamber of Commerce (KVK) can also apply for eHerkenning. This means that foreign companies, registered to VAT in the Netherlands (without permanent establishment) can also apply for this type of login option.
The European approved digital identity (eID) also works for the EU companies registered to VAT in the Netherlands however this login option will only work for the legal representative (owner) of the company.
How to login to the new taxpayer portal NL for companies outside of the EU
This change applies to all companies, including companies from outside the EU that are registered to VAT in the Netherlands. These companies also need to switch to the new portal before 1 July 2024.
These companies have 3 options:
- Apply for the eHerkenning and arrange their EU VAT affairs through taxpayer portal NL Mijn Belastingdienst Zakelijk
- Arrange their EU VAT affairs using an accounting software. In this case they do not need eHerkenning. It is important to note that the software is available only in dutch.
- Use services of their tax representative such as Eurofiscalis. In that case they do not need eHerkenning.
Timeline for the change to new portal
The new taxpayer portal NL Mijn Belastingdienst Zakelijk is already up and running since the beginning of the year 2024 so you can switch any time.
More important information is that on 1 July 2024 the old taxpayer portal that you have been using up until now will permanently close. This means that if you do not swith to the nex taxpayer portal NL before that date, you will not be able to file your tax returns.
